SOMERVILLE, NJ – Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Stationhouse Apartments at 44 Veterans Memorial Drive will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5th, at 6:30 p.m.

Plans call for 117 apartments in two connected buildings, each four stories tall, and will contain 4 studio apartments and a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments fronting on Veterans Memorial Drive.

Stationhouse Apartments is yet another luxury complex designed to appeal to those who want to live in close proximity to the Somerville train station and NJ Transit line to New York City.

Local developer Greg Storm and construction crews began excavation on the property two months ago, and have since poured concrete footings and a foundation. Storm is a principal in DGM Management, the owner of record. DGM was granted planning board approvai for Stationhouse in May, 2016.

There will be underground parking, a courtyard, and balconies on those units fronting on Veterans Memorial Drive.

The site was formerly occupied by NJN Publishing and the Messenger-Gazette and The Reporter newspapers..

DGM also built and manages Six North, an 18-unit apartment building on  Doughty Street; Storm has also bought and renovated several buildings along Main Street.

Storm expects to begin renting completed units by early 2021.

Stationhouse is a short walk to the Somerville train station, as are two other recently completed apartment developments. Adjacent to Stationhouse are the Cobalt Apartments, which opened two years ago. To the west of both developments is the SOMA luxury apartments on South Bridge Street;  the 69-unit building is fully occupied, and opened just a few months ago.

SOMA will border Somerset Station, a  41-acre complex that will feature 16 4- to 6-story buildings adjacent to the train tracks. There will be 370 apartments in two of the buildings and 156 town homes in the balance of the buildings. A town square will be the focal point of the development, with a mix of retail stores and a civic complex. 

Another complex of 12 buildings with 174 apartments alongside the Raritan Valley line will be built off Kirby Avenue in the southeastern part of the borough at the former site of the Baker and Taylor book distribution warehouse.

The 160,000 square-foot building has yet to be torn down; the developer, TFE Properties of West Windsor is awaiting the necessary permits and approvals for asbestos remediation, according to Colin Driver, the borough’s director of Economic Development.
