SOMERVILLE, NJ - New Jersey Rep. Tom Malinowski, (D-7th) will make several stops in the borough Sunday afternoon to film short segments for a campaign commercial.
First stop is the residence of Mayor Dennis Sullivan, where a few guests have been invited to a backyard party.
Sullivan was asked by Malinowski's campaign to step up as their local advance scout the mayor said yesterday just as he finished vacuuming inside his residence, making certain that everything was neat and tidy in case rain chases the backyard party indoors.
Sullivan also reached out to a few Main Street businesses where Malinowski is expected to interact with owners and employees.
Malinowski is a frequent visitor to Somerville; his Congressional District office is located here, and he has attended the past two Somerset County Reorganization meetings in January at the Historic Somerset County Courthouse to witness the swearing-in ceremonies of county officials.
In July, 2019, he hosted a "meet and greet" with coffee at Cheech's Own gourmet coffee shop on Main Street, attended by 75 constituents and local Democrats where he fielded several questions and reflected on the drama, frustrations, idealism, legislative battles and the political realities of Washington, DC. At the time, he was just six months in to the job.
Sullivan expects Malinowski to return to Somerville later this month for a walking tour of the downtown restaurant and shopping district.
The 7th Congressional District includes 75 municipalities in six counties - all of Hunterdon, and portions of Somerset, Morris, Union, Morris and Essex counties; the district has a total population of 754,222.
Malinowski will be running for his second term, having defeated Republican incumbent Leonard Lance in the 2018 election. He is being challenged for re-election to Congress by Republican Tom Kean Jr., New Jersey Senate Minority Leader and son of the former New Jersey governor.
Malinowski's local Congressional District office is at 75 North Bridge St.
