Together, different ages, faiths and backgrounds, walkers raise money and awareness to end hunger one step at a time. The route will take walkers east on Main Street on to Maple Streetand continue west on High Street until looping around to and heading east on Cliff Street.

Walkers will then turn on to Mountain Avenue, on to Prospect Street and then Altamont Place before emerging again on Mountain Avenue to connect with West High Streeet, back on to Maple, and turning on to Main Street and back to the church.

Twenty-five percent of the funds raised in the Central Somerset Walk will be split between the Food Bank Network of Somerset County and the Samaritan Homeless Interim Program (SHIP) in Somerville.

The balance of the donations raised will be used by Church World Services for hunger programs that help global communities flourish, such as providing tools needed for community gardens, installation of water pumps and filters and emergency food supplies in drought affected areas.

CWS also provides emergency relief services to those affected by hurricane destruction.

“In many developing nations, people walk as many as six miles a day to get food and water, and one in nine people lack access to clean water and a healthy diet. By walking as they walk, our steps truly take on meaning”, said Mark Cannizzo, Central Somerset Walk Coordinator.

Local congregations participating include United Reformed Church, First United Methodist Church of Somerville, North Branch Reformed Church, Congregational Church of Bound Brook, First Baptist Church of Somerville and Manville Reformed Church. Anyone with a passion to make a difference and a desire to help feed the hungry is welcome to join the walk.
