SOMERVILLE, NJ — A gaping hole was left in the outside wall of the YMCA facing the Green Street parking lot after the driver of an SUV attempting to park lost control of the vehicle, stopping short of plunging into the pool.
The mishap occurred at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
There was one minor injury to an unidentified person who was in the pool area and hit with debris, but they declined medical treatment, according to police.
Debris was scattered in the pool and littered the surrounding surface area.
The unidentified driver was cited for driver inattention, according to police.
Eddie Norgard, director of Membership and Programs at the YMCA, posted the following statement:
"I want to share that all parties involved are safe and unharmed after today's event. We thank you for your concern. To preserve the dignity of all, we're appreciative of privacy for all parties.
