VERNON, NJ - Brian McHale of Somerville was one of hundreds of athletes who participated in the two-day New Jersey Special Winter Olympics 2020 Games Feb. 3rd and 4th, held at three different locations in northern New Jersey.
McHale competed in three events: Snowshoeing, 100 meters; Snowshoeing, 200 meters and Time Trial Snowshoe.
The final competitions included alpine and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and speed skating.
The events took place at three different locations: Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon; National Winter Activity Center in Vernon and Skylands Ice World in Stockholm.
For the past 50 years, Special Olympics New Jersey has provided year=round sports training and athletic competition in 24 Olympic-type sports for more than 26,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, free of charge, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, friendship and skills with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
