An Urgent Request To Citizens To Voice Their Concerns About a Proposed Natural Gas Project Now

Williams/Transco has proposed constructing a huge gas-powered compressor station next to Trap Rock Quarry in Franklin Township as part of their Northeast Supply Enhancement Project (NESE).  This site is near many South Brunswick residential areas, houses of worship, and schools.  Over 250 residents attended a meeting in August 2016 to learn about this project and voice their concerns, and another information session was held in February 2017 with over 300 concerned citizens in attendance.  Several other meetings have been held in the area to alert citizens to this project, which is designed to move natural gas from fracking areas in Pennsylvania as well as from sources in the Gulf Coast region through New Jersey to Rockaway, NY.  Residents of New Jersey will likely get all the dangers; Williams/Transco will reportedly get the profits; and New York will supposedly get the benefits.

Resolutions opposing this project have been passed by the Townships of Franklin, South Brunswick and Montgomery, but these actions will not stop the progress of this project’s application.  Williams/Transco plans to submit their application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on March 27, 2017.  That will end what is known as the “pre-filing” period.

Concerned citizens should write to FERC on their website through the eComment process.  Directions are available in the attached link along with areas of concern about this project.  Your personal issues about this proposed project that are related to the well-being of people, wildlife and the environment, in terms of health, safety, air and water quality, noise, recreation, etc., should be made clear to (1) the agency responsible for determining if this project is approved (FERC), (2) the agency responsible for reviewing reports to determine if permits for air and water are issued (NJDEP), and (3) your local and state/federal elected officials who are responsible for protecting the health and well-being of residents and the environment.

Remember:  If this project is built, it will pose dangers for many, many years to come.  Please make your concerns and action requests known now, before the end of the pre-filing period.

Note:  You will also have an opportunity to express your concerns and action requests after the Application has been filed.  More information about that will be made available in the near future.  For now, write to FERC, NJDEP and your legislative representatives.
