SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Bears came out on top over the South Brunswick Vikings, 53-42 in the first round of the NJSIAA Tournament. The Bears led against the higher seed Vikings the entire game and did not let up.
The Bears played great on both sides of the court early in the game. EB led 27-15 at halftime and they continued to extend their lead for the remainder of the game. East Brunswick did a lot of their work from beyond the three point line as they knocked down 8 three pointers. South Brunswick only managed to drain 3 three pointers. With the absence of Bears sharpshooter, Joe Sampson, junior Mitchell Pingoy stepped up in a big way. Pingoy totaled 4 three pointers accounting for a team high 18 points.
The South Brunswick Vikings managed to outscored the East Brunswick Bears 27-26 in the second half but it was not enough to pull out the win. The Vikings were led by Michael Ugarte and Ryan Moran as they both totaled 10 points.
Seniors, Dante Ralph and Ezra Levitt also had great games providing additional offensive support. Ralph finished with 9 points, while Levitt finished with 11 points. The Bears’ great offensive and defensive game led them to a huge victory over the Vikings. EB now moves on to the next round of the NJSIAA Tournament.
