Middlesex County, NJ Warmer weather and longer daylight hours make this the perfect time of year to get outdoors and explore Middlesex County’s hiking, biking and walking trails.

One of the most popular locations in the County to walk is the Middlesex Greenway, which will be the site of a Health Walk at 9:30 a.m. April 8.

The event is being held in celebration of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s (RTC) fifth annual Opening Day for Trails, during which walkers and athletes from throughout the U.S. are invited to explore trails in their communities. The Middlesex Greenway is a former rail corridor that spans 3.5 miles through Metuchen, Edison and Woodbridge.

Walkers will meet for the event at the Metuchen Trailhead on Middlesex Avenue (County Route 501).

JFK Health nurses will lead the walk and be on hand to offer tips and answers about the many aspects of walking as exercise. Information also will be available about the Middlesex County offices of Parks and Recreation and Health Services.

After the walk, participants are invited to stay and experience the Greenway at their own pace.

“Our trails are a vital part of Middlesex County’s dedication to preserving our environment and enabling our residents to enjoy it,” said Freeholder Charles Kenny, Chair of the County’s Infrastructure Management Committee. “Come out to Opening Day and see for yourself the hiking, biking and walking opportunities available to you.”

“Middlesex County is committed to keeping its environment and its residents healthy,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “At this walk, you can enjoy the beautifully preserved scenery of our Middlesex Greenway, as well as get a great workout. I hope many people will attend.”

March 14, 2018

NEW BRUNSWICK - Rutgers University officials have often been wary of the governor's annual budget message, wondering what type of budget cuts the university may sustain and how it would potentially impact tuition and the overall quality of education.

This budget message, delivered March 13, appears to be a sigh of relief.

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (Random House, 1965)

In Cold Blood is, quite simply, the grand-daddy of true crime writing, dubbed by Capote, himself, as the first non-fiction novel (although Norman Mailer argued the point when he published The Executioner's Song in 1979.) The conditions under which I read In Cold Blood for the first time were pretty weird, which was another ...
