ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - During the League of Municipalities Convention, many of the state’s top officials including members of the East Brunswick administrative team gathered in Atlantic City this week to take and teach continuing education courses, visit displays, and network with their peers in local government.
Mayor Brad Cohen took attended a brunch held by Middlesex County’s own Craig Coughlin (D-19.) Coughlin has recently been named the Speaker-Elect of the New Jersey General Assembly. Just this week, his fellow colleagues officially gave Assemblyman Coughlin (D-19) their endorsement to serve as the next Speaker of the General Assembly.
As Speaker, Assemblyman Coughlin will be among the state’s top elected officials with Governor-elect Phil Murphy of Monmouth County and Senate President Steve Sweeney of South Jersey. Over 400 people came out to attend the Speaker-designate’s event.
Among the attendees were members of the Assembly from both parties, members of the Senate and Assembly’s leadership teams, representatives from Governor-elect Phil Murphy’s team, mayors from across central New Jersey, activists, community leaders, religious leaders, and policy experts.
No speeches were given, but Mr. Coughlin made his way through the room speaking to all of the attendees, thanking them for coming, and reminiscing about past experiences.
