Two tractor-trailer trucks were involved in a collision and caught fire.

According to the agency, one of the trucks containg Acetylene and propane tanks, caught fire resulting in several explosions.

The northbound lanes of the roadway are presently closed, backing traffic up for several miles.

Residents of Sherry Road have been asked to stay clear of their homes and their street, as the explosions happened almost directly behind Sherry on the Northbound side of the Turnpike.

As of 9:15 p.m., New Jersey State Police were reporting both the inbound and outbound roads on the Northbound Turnpike were closed, although they were hoping to repoen the inbound roadway soon.

The two truck drivers were reported to have minor injuries.

Local roads were impacted, as in addition to Sherry Road, the Sullivan Way overpass was closed, and traffic was heavy on University Road.

Residents reported their homes shaking from the impact of the explosion, and subsequently the tires of the tankers also blew, causing further smaller percussions.

We will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
