EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Adding to a string of local drug arrests in East Brunswick during the month of February, police officers encountered another person in possession of drugs and a weapon during a traffic stop on Route 18.
On February 27, 2016 at approximately 1:30 AM, Patrolman Christian Longhitano initiated a motor vehicle stop on Route 18 north near the New Jersey Turnpike. While speaking to the driver, Ptl. Longhitano detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The driver was asked to exit the vehicle and a search of his person was negative. The passenger of the vehicle, later identified as Herbert Donerson a 22-year-old male from Piscataway, was asked to exit the vehicle, accoring to a report issued by the EBPD today.
As Ptl. Longhitano began to search Donerson, he became uncooperative and agitated. Longhitano, with the assistance of his back-up officer Ptl. Matthew Egnasko, secured Donerson. Upon searching him, the officers found a loaded 9mm handgun in Donerson's jacket pocket and a bag of marijuana in his front jeans pocket. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Police report that Donerson was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of marijuana under 50 grams. He was transferred to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of $70,000 bail.
