Every year, Mountain Creek holds the top Oktoberfest in the entire northeast. Over the course of two days, attendees are invited to try a host of domestic and German brews along with plenty of delicious authentic German dishes. Past favorites include potato pancakes, bratwurst, braised rabbit, strudel, and red cabbage. Bringing along children who are finicky eaters? No problem at all since the festival will have dedicated stations serving hamburgers, hot dogs, Jersey corn, ice cream, and more.

Guests will feel as if they have arrived at the Bavarian Alps as they are invited to events such as stein holding contests, lumberjack competitions, wife carrying relays, corn hole, and beer pong. To keep the kids occupied while the adults enjoy their pints, the festival will have animal-themed shows, pony rides, a petting zoo, and sack races. Ticketing and event information can be found here.

Roseland Greek Festival

For the fifth year in a row, Ss Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Roseland is hosting their Greek Festival over the September 23rd weekend. Highlights of the festival include delectable Greek cuisine, live Greek music, and Greek folk dancing.

Don’t have time to attend the festival, but still want to sample the dishes? This year you can with the festival’s convenient takeout form available online. New menu items for 2016 include stuffed tomatoes, grilled octopus, and Baklava chocolate cake. To place your orders and view more information about the event, go to the church’s website here.

Great Pumpkin Festival in Vernon

One of fall’s favorite pastimes is attending harvest festivals that celebrate the season. The Great Pumpkin Festival held each autumn weekend at Heaven Hill Farm has pumpkins, hayrides, and so much more. Each day there is a full lineup of events including pig races, gem mining, pony rides, hay crawls, monster sling shots, and post pounding.

Most activities are covered under one low admission fee, but carnival rides are separate pricing. For refreshments, guests are invited to try the offerings found in the Farm Store. More details can be found here.

Seton Village and Craft Beer Festival in South Orange

For one day only on September 23rd, Seton Village in South Orange will hold an all-day festival featuring over 15 food trucks and an oversized Craft Beer Garden. Food trucks expected at the event will be serving a variety of favorites such as tacos, fried cheese curd, empanadas, lobster rolls, and sliders. You must be 21 to enter the beer garden and will get a chance to try the largest collection of craft brews in the state. The two stages at the festival will have a lineup that includes Brother Valiant, Wedeya, and Flip da Skrip. More event details can be found here.
