FRANKLIN PARK, NJ – A Saturday morning fire displaced a Franklin Park family, police said.

Franklin Township Police Sgt. Philip Rizzo said police and fire crews were sent to a structure fire at 21 Marco Polo Court in the Franklin Park section of the township at 10:49 a.m.

Arriving units saw heavy black smoke coming from the upper level of the home and flames visible through the upper windows of the rear of the house.

Crews were met by the residents who were able to escape without injury, Rizzo said.

One of the residents that complained of not feeling well was evaluated by the Kendall Park First Aid Squad, but refused transport to the hospital, Rizzo said.

Neighbors from 19 and 23 Marco Polo Court were evacuated as a precaution as firefighters fought the blaze.

Both of those homes suffered minor heat damage, such as melting vinyl siding, but no other damage to their structures, he said.

The home at 21 Marco Polo Court suffered extensive fire, water and smoke damage and was deemed uninhabitable, Rizzo said.

The family is currently staying with family in the area.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation, Rizzo said.
