SOMERSET, NJ - The rain is not keeping local environmental advocates away making their voices heard by state officials today.
Brief Video of the rally:
Groups from Franklin Township and surrounding towns are rallying outside a Somerset campaign event and calling on local political leaders to take a stand against a proposed 32,000 horsepower gas compressor station set to be built in Franklin Township, off route 27.
Outside the campaign kickoff event for Senator Bob Smith and Assemblymen Joe Egan and Joe Danielsen, local activists fighting the compressor station and a related pipeline expansion are calling on the Democrats to voice their opposition to the fossil fuel project.
While the Transco Williams project has generated stiff opposition from nearby towns, the three Democratic politicians seeking re-election have not yet committed to opposing this, or other future fossil fuel infrastructure projects in New Jersey.
The rally will also call on the Democrats to support a plan to transition to 100% clean, renewable energy.
