FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Occupants of a home on Sycamore Place in the Village of Kingston were displaced Wednesday afternoon as fire tore through the structure. Police and fire companies from Franklin Township, Kingston, Kendall Park and South Brunswick arrived on the scene to find flames and heavy smoke shooting from the house.

Smoke could be seen from a tree-lined section of Route 27 and could be smelled from a block away. A handful of neighbors stood across the street and spoke amongst themselves while taking pictures with their cell phones of the smoky scene. They declined, however, to comment to a Franklin Township TAPinto.net reporter.

Police said the two female occupants of the home were able to escape the fire uninjured. According to police, the fire was still burning at 1:30 p.m. and the cause remains unknown. Neighboring South Brunswick Township Police put out a Nixle alert telling residence on the other side of Route 27 that the fire was causing an odor of smoke in that township as well.
