EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - More than 2,000 students returned to the five campuses of the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools Sept. 7 to find a new superintendent and a new major in global logistics and supply chain management.

Superintendent of Schools Dianne D. Veilleux, who has spent her entire career in the district and the last seven years as assistant superintendent, has succeeded Brian J. Loughlin, who retired. Brian Bilal, formerly principal of the School of Career Development on the Piscataway Campus, has moved into Veilleux’s former post.

Planning for the global logistics major – the district’s 32nd career major -- was aided by an advisory committee of industry executives, academics and workforce development professionals. It is being housed on the MCVTS Piscataway Campus.

Sean McDonald, MCVTS director of career and technical education, said the industry offers jobs in transportation, distribution and logistics planning and management for the movement of goods by road, rail, air and sea. He said Middlesex County is strategically located for companies involved in global and national trade, with demand for trained employees more plentiful here than elsewhere in the United States.

A new health-careers major – also on the Piscataway Campus – is in the planning stages for later this year. It will be in addition to the health technology major on the Piscataway Campus, the health services major on the East Brunswick Campus, the Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences in Woodbridge, and the licensed practical nursing program for adults.

The new major will focus on providing training for the initial certification needed to directly enter the healthcare workforce upon graduation or to continue advanced training, certification or licensing as a licensed practical nurse or emergency medical technician.

Terri Ann Sullivan is the new principal of the Woodbridge Academy, coming to the district from Asbury Park, where she was instructional specialist. Earlier, she spent 15 years in the Los Angeles Unified School District, including as lead teacher in the Academy of Medical Arts. Regina Covington, who had been an assistant principal in Newark, is the new principal of the School of Career Development in Piscataway.

Named assistant principals are Joseph Adochio and Kelly Nakielny in East Brunswick, and Sonja Paprota at the Edison Academy.

The Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School District, the first full-time county vocational school district in the nation, has seven schools on five campuses, in East Brunswick, Edison, Piscataway, Perth Amboy and Woodbridge.
