Police Identify South Brunswick Shooting Victim

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Officials identified the 24-year-old woman gunned down in the parking lot of a Docks Corner Road business Wednesday morning.

Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office Spokesman Jim O'Neill said the victim has been identified as Alicia Martinez-Izaguirr, 24, of New Brunswick.

According to O'Neill, Martinez-Izaguirr was shot to death at around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning in the parking lot of a warehouse on Docks Corner Road.

In an earlier press release, O'Neill said she was approached by a suspect and shot.

The suspect then fled the scene, he said.

An autopsy conducted by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner's Office on Wednesday concluded that Martinez-Izaguirr died as a result of a shooting, O'Neill said.

The investigation into the murder is active and ongoing, he said.

It is the first homicide in the township since 2008.

Michael Maltese, then 17, and his girlfriend strangled his parents in a mobile home off Route 1 before going on a shopping spree with their credit cards in New York City.

Prior to the trip, the couple buried the parents in a shallow grave in the Beech Woods Park on Henderson Road.

Maltese is serving a 64-year sentence in the killings.

Local police also said this is the first killing involving a gun in more than 20 years,
