PISCATAWAY, NJ — A township middle school student is facing charges after investigators determined that a message written on a school bathroom wall earlier this month was a potential threat of violence, said Piscataway police.

“On March 2, the Piscataway Township Police Department received a report from school officials at Theodore Schor Middle School of graffiti that was placed on a bathroom stall that implied a potential threat to the school community,” said police officials in a Monday news release.

“Although the graffiti did not directly mention any specific details regarding the threat, an immediate and vigorous investigation was undertaken by detectives from the Special Victims Unit, General Investigations Section and our school resource officers,” said officials.

A 13-year-old student was taken into custody Monday afternoon and charged with juvenile delinquency “to include creating false public alarm, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, and hindering apprehension,” said police, adding that the juvenile was later released to a parent.

"Any direct or indirect threat made, especially within the school community will be vigorously and thoroughly investigated by the police department as to the credibility and potential source,” said Chief Scott L. Cartmell. “We will not hesitate to act".

"I thank the Piscataway Township School Administration for the continued cooperation with us to ensure the safety of every school, student and staff in our school district,” Cartmell added.

Officials advised that there will be a continued police presence at the schools during the upcoming days. They remind the public, “if you see or hear of any type of threat, to report it immediately.”

The Truth About My Reading

The Truth About My Reading

I didn't get my Composition and Literature teacher at Montclair State College at all. A crusty old man with a dour disposition, Mr. Smith always seemed angry and rude. He appropriately intimidated freshmen, even me, an English major, who found this common core course beneath my dignity. Frankly, as a graduate of Highland Park High School, and a survivor of Mrs.
