School Bus Driver Charged with Sex Assaults Against Students

MONTGOMERY, NJ – An 84-year-old township resident has been arrested and charged with sexual assault against an 8- and 12-year-old and as many as seven other children while a bus driver going back to the 1960s, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

Edward Atoeff of Cherry Valley Road was the owner and operator of Jastyke Transportation at the time of the alleged assaults, according to Robertson. 

Atoeff is charged with two counts of first degree, aggravated sexual assault and two counts of second degree, sexual assault after an investigation was initiated when the alleged victims, now adults, came forward and reported the alleged incidents to Montgomery Police.

Atoeff is lodged in the Somerset County Jail in Somerville, pending a detention hearing.

The two adults claim they were sexually assaulted repeatedly by the suspect when they were 8- and 12-years-old, according to Robertson, who provided the following details:

Detectives assigned to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit and the Montgomery Township Police Department’s detective bureau began an investigation and arrested the suspect at his home on Monday, March 19.

Detectives are interviewing potential witnesses and other potential victims, according to Robertson.

The prosecutor disclosed there may be as many as seven others who allegedly were sexually assaulted by Atoeff.dating back to the 1960s.

Detectives say Atoeff would encounter the majority of his victims while working as a school bus driver.
