SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - “Greatest feeling ever,” exclaimed junior Ryan Moran as he lifted his South Brunswick Vikings to a 57-56 boys basketball victory with about three seconds remaining over the East Brunswick Bears in front of a hometown crowd Tuesday night.
“My team trusted me the whole game,” said Moran after hitting his last second three-pointer. “They knew I would make the shot. I just did what I’ve been doing.”
What looked like certain defeat for the Vikings, ended in triumph.
With only about 80 seconds remaining and down by nine points, South Brunswick would have to pull off a miracle.
They did just that.

East Brunswick’s starting point guard and shooting guard fouled out with only seconds lingering.
That was all it took for South Brunswick to end up on top.
“We’ve got to be able to win a game when you’re up by nine with a couple (seconds) remaining,” said East Brunswick head coach Mark Motusesky, “We collapsed a little bit. We were tough all game long, and the last couple minutes we collapsed, both mentally and physically.”
The Bears had dominated for most of the game.
After struggling in the first quarter, and not being able to score until about three and a half minutes remaining, the Bears had a quick turn around.
East Brunswick outscored South Brunswick 17-16 in the second quarter and was now only trailing by one point at the half.
East Brunswick had taken control of the game until the final two minutes of play. Disaster struck, and it struck them hard.
“They were killing us from the outside,” said South Brunswick head coach Joe Hoehman, “We never really had a come from behind (win), but I told them, we are going to face adversity all year.”
Not only did Hoehman’s Vikings face adversity, but they also overcame it.
The South Brunswick Vikings are now 10-2 and second in its division, with the East Brunswick falling behind them at 8-4.
