SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – Commuters awoke to a traffic mess on Route 522 Wednesday morning after a dump truck crashed into the traffic signal at the Stouts Lane intersection, causing the road to be closed in both directions.
According to police, around 6 a.m. Wednesday, the driver of a dump truck heading west on Route 522 to the Trap Rock quarry in Franklin Township, fell asleep and crashed into the traffic signal at Stouts Lane.
The crash brought down a pole and wires, closing the road for a period of time, police said.
The driver of the truck was not injured, police said.
Police are still investigating the accident.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON:
Police said this afternoon that repairs could take up to two weeks to complete and traffic will not be allowed to make a left turn from Route 522 west onto Stouts Lane or a left from Stouts Lane onto Route 522 west.
According to police, detours will be posted directing traffic to and from the high school to New Road and Ridge Road.
