SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – A 30-year-old township man is facing a plethora of charges after fleeing the scene of a head-on crash on Ridge Road Tuesday, police said.

The accident took place at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning as Wilma Davis, 70, of South Brunswick, was heading west on Ridge Road near Julia Way in her 2014 Hyundai Accent.

Police said that Tiedemann fled the scene following the accident and that witnesses told police that he drove the Pathfinder into a nearby office complex, nearly hitting a mailbox.

Police arriving on the scene found the Hyundai in the roadway and EMS workers transported Davis to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with chest pains.

One witness told police that Tiedemann allegedly was staggering around and appeared to throw several items into a sewer drain in the parking lot.

Officers Gerald Sarno and Oscar Ayala found the vehicle and eventually discovered Tiedemann inside a bathroom in the office complex where he was flushing the toilet, police said.

Officer William Beard then located multiple hypodermic syringes in the sewer drain, police said.

The officers determined Tiedemann was under the influence the drugs and arrested him and recovered a large piece of plastic tubing used and heroin folds inside of Tiedemann’s shoes, police said.

Police charged Tiedemann with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a hypodermic needle, driving under the influence, hindering his own apprehension, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and numerous other motor vehicle violations, police said.

He was released on a summons pending his first court appearance. Did you like this story?
