SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – After losing some 14 seniors last year, South Brunswick High School Girls Soccer Head Coach Beth Barrio is looking to re-build her team for 2015.

“With 14 seniors graduating and 16 of 21 leaving in totality, we will be doing everything differently this year,” Barrio said. “Our players are new, our vision is new, our goals will be new and most of all our dynamic is new.”

While Barrio classified last season as “amazing,” she said the team needs to concentrate on the new season before them.

“We feel success is determined by elevating the level of the game for the current team,” Barrio said. “Last year's team left plans of work ethic, character and a sense of family in place that we hope this year's team continues to strive for. “

With five returning seniors, three of them starters, Barrio is using the pre-season scrimmages to evaluate her club, and hopes the foundation laid by last year’s team takes hold with the younger players.

“In order to provide every opportunity for this new team to succeed, we feel we have to stay true to our foundational beliefs while changing our daily routine to embrace the strengths and improve the weaknesses of the new team we have,” she said.

She said the team will work on defining its goals, and find out what kind of team it is by the start of the regular season next month.

Like the varsity squad, the junior varsity squad is also rebuilding, and there will not be a freshman team this year, she said.

“We do however always step into a season with the goals of being competitive within the red division and continuing to improve as a team throughout the season,” Barrio said.
