SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - After going 2-4 in their last six games dating back to Sept. 22, the South Brunswick girls volleyball team was able to put together three straight wins to quietly improve to 10-6 on the year.
Before going on its winning streak, the Vikings were in the midst of a rough patch of games. They had lost the previous two games to Monroe High School and Colonia High School.
It all started with a three-set victory, 2-1, against J.F.K. High School on Friday Oct. 7. They took the first set 25-18 and won the third set 25-15. After that, they closed out two more games against North Brunswick (2-1) on Oct. 8 and Perth Amboy (2-0) on Oct. 10.
During the streak, having some very strong performances for the Vikings were junior Kelly Matuszewski, senior Lindsay Szucs and senior Nina Trach.
Matuszewski tallied 17 kills, 14 digs, five service points and one block. Szucs compiled 42 assists, 15 service points, five aces, six kills, and a block. Trach racked up 40 digs, 28 service points, 11 aces and six assists.
Head coach Kacy Kelly has been very pleased with her teams’ recent performance.
“They played as a team and let their chemistry shine through their game,” said Kelly. “We have really been working on decreasing the amount of unforced errors, learning to work with momentum and our determination to finish games.”
South Brunswick will look to keep its three-game winning streak intact, as they will face East Brunswick High School on Thursday and Mother Seton High School on Friday.
