July is one of the hottest months of the year in New Jersey and the festival scene is scorching as well. Most townships hold their community fairs throughout the summer months to draw the most crowds. Go early and stay late at any of these fun-filled events this coming weekend.

Touch-a-Truck

Boys and girls alike always have a ball at touch-a-truck events. The South Plainfield Lions Club is sponsoring this Saturday’s event at Veterans Memorial Park. Admission is free with the festival taking place between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm. Food and drinks will be available for purchase along with unlimited admission to bounce houses. Vehicles featured include rescue trucks, fire engines, recycling trucks, excavators, and many more.

Festival of Nature

On July 15th, visit the Wagner Farm Arboretum in Somerset County to celebrate local wildlife. Animal exhibits will include wolves, farm animals, alpacas, reptiles, butterflies, and many more. There will be interactive exhibits such as building bughouses and using fire hoses to put out controlled fires. Additional activities include face painting, DJ music, and carnival games. All activities are included with wristband purchase for a $20 per person fee. Food is an additional cost. The festival will be Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm with a rain date for Sunday.

81st Annual Cat Show and Expo

For 81 years, the wildly popular cat expo has attracted crowds to the NJ Convention and Exposition Center in Edison. This fun for all ages event has over 35 vendors on hand featuring all things feline. Shows will take place throughout the day to offer information about various breeds. Cat adoptions will also be available during the event. The expo is a ticketed event being held both Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.

Annual Garden Party

Enjoy a beautiful summer’s day at the park on Saturday by attending Somerset’s 18th Annual Garden Party. Come to Colonial Park Garden in Franklin Township to learn about local horticulture and attend interactive gardening demonstrations. Complimentary plants and refreshments will be provided. The event is scheduled for 11 am to 3 pm. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

Annual Immaculate Conception Carnival On Tap

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Three people were stabbed following a fight at a party late Saturday on Delafield Street between Bristol and Courtland streets, Rutgers police said in an alert sent out to students.
