PLAINSBORO TOWNSHIP, NJ - Despite 21 points by senior JT Vento, the Spotswood High School boys varsity basketball team lost to West Windsor-Plainsboro High School, 72-55. The Chargers were only down 37-32 going into the halftime break. However, the Northern Knights, out shot Spotswood, 19-5 in the third quarter, which proved to be the difference maker in the game for the Chargers. The team bounced back in the final eight minutes, outshooting the Northern Knights 18-16, but the deficit was too deep to impact the scoreboard.
Junior Vinnie Guardiola picked up 11 points in the loss while Justin Dekovics added eight. Both Abdullah Nieskens and Solomon Tyson chipped in five. Jaden Sands was the story of the game for the Northern Knights. Sands netted 30 points, including 14 field goals, which earned him a double-double on the score sheet. Tristan Dunn scored 14 for West Windsor-Plainsboro North while Saubhagya Balyan added 11.
The loss drops Spotswood's overall season record to 5-13. Their conference record is 1-6. The Chargers will say good-bye to a dismal January on the court with an off day. They will start off the new month on Wednesday, February 1 with an away game against Middlesex High School. Game time is 7 p.m.
