TRENTON, NJ – The New York Yankees, 27 time World Champions and presently holders of the best record in Major League Baseball, have announced that first baseman Greg Bird and outfielder Billy McKinney will be joining the Eastern League Trenton Thunder tonight on a Major League Rehabilitation assignment from the parent club.
McKinney is a former member of the Thunder, who was disabled early in this season after making the club out of spring training. Bird, from Memphis, Tennessee and later Colorado, also played for the Thunder in 2015. He has been injured on and off with a right shoulder and a bruised right ankle.
The Thunder play at home tonight, weather permitting, vs.the Akron Rubber Ducks at 7 p.m.. It is also Nomar Garciaparra bobblehead Night for the first 1,525 fans over the age of 14. The promotion is presented by Capital Health.
A bigger than usual crowd is expected for tonight’s game.
