SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ -- The South Brunswick boys basketball team gained a berth in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament quarterfinals with an 86-66 victory over Piscataway in the first round Thursday night.

Tyrell Murchison scored 23 points for the Vikings (19-4), who outscored Piscataway, 25-11, in the second quarter to open a 40-21 halftime lead.

Justin Carbone finished with 20 points, Devin Strickland scored 14 and Akhil Edekar connected for 10 points for South Brunswick, the fourth seed, which will play fifth-seeded Carteret in the quarterfinal round Sunday at Middlesex County College.

South Brunswick will take a seven-game winning streak into Sunday's game.
