MONMOUTH JUNCTION, NJ - Monday night marked the ninth annual A Taste for Education, presented by the Education Foundation of South Brunswick Township, Inc., at Pierre's of South Brunswick.
The program began with a welcome from Martin Abschutz, President of the Foundation. The two hundred guests were able to sample food displays from area food vendors including Chartwells, Fireside Grill and Bar, LaTaverna, Moghul Express, Zinna's Bistro, On The Border, Just My Sweets, Quaker Steak and Lube, Confectionately Yours, and host, Pierre's.
There were hundreds of donated raffle gifts and Silent Auction gifts available for the attendees to bid on. The major winners (besides the children of the school district) were Constable Principal Peter Rattien who needed a moving truck to bring the gifts that he and his wife accumulated and Education Board member Azra Baig who won a 50" Sharp television. The School Administrators bid for a round of golf at Foresgate Country Club was accepted by the organizers of the event.
The event was expected to raise thousands of dollars for the Foundation.
The funds raised will assist with supporting educational initiatives and projects. The Foundation has provided upwards of $72,000 in grants to district teachers and schools. In addition, the Foundation has provided selected graduating seniors with over $52,000 in scholarships. Funding for the scholarships is derived from Chartwells, former superintendent Gary P. McCartney, and others.
In addition, the organization funds the newly created Joanne Kerekes Arts Grant to deserving students. This grant was established in 2016 to honor the past Assistant Superintendent for her service.
Upcoming Foundation events will include "A Murder Mystery" on Saturday evening, January 26, 2019 and the Foundation Fun Walk on Sunday June 9, 2019.
