MONTCLAIR, NJ - An Essex County undersheriff was charged Wednesday with aggravated  criminal contact and endangering the welfare of a child, said authorities. 

The undersheriff, James Pitts, was arrested at his home in Montclair, said Essex County Prosecutor's Office Spokeswoman Katherine Carter.

Pitts was charged with six acts of aggravated criminal contact and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, she said.

The victim's identity was not released, nor were details about the allegations.

Pitts supervises the daily activities of the courts, Security and Transportation Divisions for the sheriff's department, according to the Essex County Sheriff's Department website.
