SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – Firefighters from the three township departments and two other units quickly extinguished a small fire at the International Flavors & Fragrances warehouse on Docks Corner Road Tuesday morning, officials said.
Monmouth Junction Fire Capt. Sean Wert said the call came in at 10:47 a.m. Tuesday reporting an active fire in a dry spraying unit in the warehouse facility at 150 Docks Corner Road.
Wert said he arrived and found a heavy smoke condition inside of the door into the room containing the equipment and asked the dispatch for a mutual aid alarm.
In total, firefighters from the three township districts of Monmouth Junction, Kendall Park and Kingston went to the scene along with units from both North Brunswick and Jamesburg.
IFF also had a fire brigade of its own fighting the fire in one of the units, but a second was also on fire, Wert said.
The responding crews put out the fires and ventilate the smoke from the building, leaving the scene around 11:40 a.m., Wert said.
Employees were evacuated and returned to the building after the room was ventilated, Wert said.
“This was a pretty cut and dried operation,” Wert said. “It was a good job by the fire brigade from IFF (getting the fire out quickly).”
No injuries were reported, Wert said.
IFF officials declined to comment on the incident.
According to the company’s website, IFF “is a leading innovator of sensorial experiences,” designing scents for a variety of fragrance and other household items as well as developing tastes for foods and beverages.
The company has 6,700 employees worldwide, according to its website.
