SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Lady Vikings volleyball team beat Mother Seton Regional High School, 2-0, on Friday night.
South Brunswick was able to get revenge on the Mother Seton Setters who had beaten them back on Sept. 16.
Coach Kacy Kelly indicated her nerves were a little high heading into tonight's game.
"Having lost to East Brunswick yesterday and Mother Seton the first time we played them, I was a little nervous to say the least," said Kelly. "We had a team meeting before the game and I think that really set the tone."
The first set featured a bit of back-and-forth action.
Neither team was really gaining a competitive edge.
After South Brunswick gained an 11-7 lead, the Vikings watched the Setters tie it right back up.
As the set played on, the Vikings began to get into a rhythm.
The strong play forced Mother Seton to take multiple timeouts as they were down 20-16.
South Brunswick closed out the initial set 25-19.
One Viking player who had an exceptional game was junior Olivia Violante.
Violante made countless dives throughout the game, keeping the ball and play alive.
"Olivia really played well for us tonight," said Kelly. "Normally she serves and plays the back row, but tonight she was all over the place."
Violante tallied two aces, three service points and 12 digs.
The Vikings made sure Mother Seton had no chance of tying the match up in the second set.
South Brunswick jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back.
Mother Seton added some points here and there but were forced to take a couple timeouts, while the Vikings had clear momentum and eventually went on to win the final set 25-16.
Coach Kelly was overall pleased with her teams' performance.
"They played really well, they were able to bounce back from their errors and they built off of the chemistry they built throughout the game," said Kelly. "Equally, they all played good and they did a good job tonight."
The Vikings improve to 11-7 on the season and will travel to take on West Windsor Plainsboro South on Monday.
