SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – A Monday morning fire gutted a detached garage on George’s Road, police said.

According to police, fire broke out in a free-standing garage with two bays at 866 George’s Road around 7:11 a.m. Monday morning.

The Monmouth Junction Fire Department and police responded to the scene and brought the fire, which fully engulfed the structure, under control, but not before the blaze totally destroyed the garage, police said.

The residence, less than 30 feet away, was not damaged during the incident.

Firefighters from Kingston, Kendall Park and North Brunswick also responded, police said.

The South Brunswick Fire Marshal is investigating the cause, police said.

The fire closed part of George’s Road between Distribution Way and Deans Lane until about 9 a.m., but that section is now open, police said.
