SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J.- The South Brunswick Vikings boys basketball team will kick off its season against the Old Bridge Knights on Dec. 16.

Head coach Joseph Hoehman, who led his team to an impressive 22-5 season last year, also saw them lose in the GMC Finals to St. Joseph H.S. 56-48.

The Vikings will look to hit the ground running this year with an impressive veteran group.

Returning for South Brunswick are 12 seniors including: Michael Ugarte, Ryan Moran, Chris James, Greg Lee, Victor Heutz, Tavian Alford, Devante Saintfort, Kunal Thakral, Anthony Blakey, Brendon Scarlett, Morgan Jones and Shawn Bautista.

The Vikings are expected to lean heavily on their two star players this year in Ugarte and Moran.  Last year, Ugarte tallied 335 points and averaged 12.4 points a game.  Moran had 134 points and averaged 5.6 points a game.

"They're (Ugarte and Moran) our two leading scorers that return from last season's team," said head coach Hoehman. "We will be looking for their leadership throughout the year, especially during our playoff runs."

With their season just a little over a week away, Hoehman is eager to get the year started and expects his team to be in every game.

"I expect to be very competitive this year.  This group of seniors has been competitive every year they have been in the program regardless of what level they were competing at," Hoehman said.  "So we are hoping that this season will be the same."
