NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The South Brunswick Vikings boys basketball team was not fooling around Sunday afternoon, defeating the Old Bridge Knights, 69-36 at New Brunswick High School.
The Vikings found plenty of chinks in the Knights armor early on, opening up the first quarter with a 22-4 lead.
Michael Ugarte had a massive 25-point game with always dangerous Eric Savage adding 14 points of his own in the romp over the Red Division rivals in the quarterfinal match of the Greater Middlesex Conference tournament.
Ugarte tied with teammate Danesh Thirukumaran with three each from outside the line during the game.
Old Bridge’s Connor Romano and Stephen Strom led the anemic scoring for the Knights with nine and eight points respectively.
Once South Brunswick took the lead, there was no going back with the Vikings outscoring Old Bridge through the next three quarters 47-3, sealing the victory.
The Vikings are now 19-3 on the year and Old Bridge falls to 17-7.
