HUD New York Regional Office Senior Management Analyst Earleene Sealy organizes this yearly event to provide valuable information and tools that assist homebuyers and homeowners.

Featured Speakers:

  • Jerrold H. Mayer, Director, Office of Outreach & Capacity Building, Office of Housing Counseling

Since the onset of the pandemic, the FHA has helped millions of Americans weather this crisis by expanding mortgage payment relief options for struggling homeowners and maintaining a foreclosure and eviction moratorium for homeowners with FHA-insured, single family mortgages.

We believe that the majority of borrowers who are behind on their mortgage payments are delinquent because of the financial stresses resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Communities of color are disproportionately affected by the pandemic and are also likely to be a large share of homeowners who are behind on their FHA-insured mortgage payments.

Our goal is to have as many struggling homeowners as possible request a mortgage payment forbearance from their servicer. HUD-approved housing counseling agencies are ready to help homeowners who are behind on their mortgage payments to take steps to save their homes, but they must take action now. Locate a HUD-approved housing counseling agency near you here: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/find-a-housing-counselor/

Every person deserves the chance to live each day with security, with dignity, and with hope. A place to call their own. HUD will do everything we can to help advance affordable homeownership in our nation—this month, and every month ahead.
