SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Yesterday was the grand opening of a brand new Shop-Rite in South Brunswick located on Route 1, Monmouth Junction. The new state-of-the-art store will be approximately 72,000 square feet and will employ 300 plus employees, both part-time and full time. The first 125 customers to shop at the store received a complimentary goodie bag with groceries and flowers.
In attendance during the opening ceremony were Councilwoman Ken Bierman; Tom Saker, senior vice president of operations for Saker Shop-Rites; Councilwoman Jo Hochman; Bernie Hvozdovic, borough administrator; Councilwoman Ann Grover; Bryan Bidlack, borough planner; South Brunswick Mayor Charlie Carley, and Rick Saker, senior vice president of operations for Saker ShopRites; and Richard Saker, president and CEO of Saker Shop-Rites.
Richard Saker emphasized the commitment that both he and his company will be making to the people of South Brunswick as well as all residents of Middlesex County, calling his stores an integral part of each community where their stores operate.
"Thank you so much for being here for this exciting event today. We can't wait for you to see our store," Richard Saker, president and CEO of Saker Shop-Rites, Inc., told customers who lined up in front of the new store just before the doors opened at 7 a.m. "I'm so proud of this store and the 300 new associates we are welcoming to the Saker Shop-Rite team. We look forward to becoming the local neighborhood grocer and place for our neighbors to enjoy shopping."
According to the press release, the new Shop-Rite will contain over 1,000 fine food selections along with a specialty bakery for world-class pastries. There will be an expanded section of international food items along with a variety of foreign and domestic cheeses. There will also be a floral department to craft on site boutiques, a meat counter with a trained butcher and a fresh seafood counter.

We look forward to becoming the supermarket destination of choice for South Brunswick and the surrounding areas,” said Richard Saker, President and CEO of Saker Shop-Rite, Inc in a press release from the company.
The new store will also have an emphasis on energy sufficiency, installing sustainable technologies in refrigeration, lighting and recycling. Some of these features include glass doors on the dairy and freezer cases, LED and T-8 lighting, as well as a state-of-the-art bio-digester for reducing waste.
Raj Tiwari is a Forbes Council Member and Contributor who was in attendance for the grand opening and was the new Shop-Rite’s first customer. Tiwari spoke to the economic impact that this new Shop-Rite will have in the community.
“I think that it means a lot to the residents of South Brunswick. It is great for the convenience of course and more revenue for the township. It is a very important, and we are very excited for this Shop-Rite to open up in this region” Tiwari said.
