SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - The South Brunswick Township Council has adopted an ordinance which allows electric vehicle charging equipment and stations to be permitted accessories in all zoning districts of the township. This amendment to the township code is in compliance with legislation passed by the state and part of a program called ‘Charge Up New Jersey,’ which incentivizes residents to purchase electric vehicles and cut down on global emissions.

A new set of provisions for electrical vehicle charging equipment (EVCE) shall be taken into consideration for all site plans brought before the planning and zoning board in South Brunswick. All single-family homes, townhouses and condominium units that are assigned a specific garage for parking will have a 240-volt electric outlet for electrical vehicles. EVCE will be allowed in the front yard area of any home.

The ordinance requires that the following establishments designate an amount of 3% of their parking spaces to electrical vehicle charging stations (EVCS) before being presented to either board.
