SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - The New Jersey Department of Health reported no new cases of COVID-19 in Middlesex County on Wednesday, but three more county residents died because of the coronavirus.

The total number of infections in Middlesex County as of Wednesday morning was 16,640. Over the last week, a total of 127 new cases have been confirmed in the county. Thirteen people have died in the last week as a result of COVID-19, which has claimed 1,107 lives in Middlesex County since the start of the pandemic.

For comparison, on May 1, close to the virus' peak locally, there were 232 new cases overnight and 20 new deaths.

Statewide, there have been 169,892 confirmed cases. Governor Phil Murphy announced 317 new positive test results in New Jersey on Wednesday, the 26th consecutive day that the daily increase has been below 1,000. The most positive results recorded in the state in a single day was 4,305 in early April.
