SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Arrests have been made in two recent unrelated stolen car incidents taking place in South Brunswick Township last week. The first incident involved a car that was stolen from the Quick Check parking lot on Route 130 in Dayton. A 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe was stolen on January 24 at 10:15 a.m. after the victim had given the suspect a ride from the Courtyard Marriot Hotel on Route 535. The suspect held an unknown metal object to the neck of the victim and demanded his car. The victim was not injured and called 911 after giving up the car to the suspect.

The other stolen car case occurred on January 23 during the evening rush hour. Officer Gerald Sarno was monitoring speeds along Route 130 with radar equipment when he observed a silver Subaru traveling south along Route 130 at 93 miles per hour. After catching up with the vehicle, Sarno determined the vehicle was stolen and proceeded to conduct a high risk motor vehicle stop. The diver of the vehicle was later identified at Yves Badawy. Badawy, a Milltown resident, initially refused to exit the vehicle. The 23-year-old also let the car roll along the grassy median before bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. Several south Brunswick police officers responded to the scene. Traffic in both directions was halted as officers attempted to take Badawy into custody. Badawy was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He was also issued several motor vehicle summonses.

The stolen vehicle from the January 24 incident was tracked down in Philadelphia by Detective Bryan Sites and Detective Brady Shelcusky with help from the Philadelphia Police Department. Jashua Stites of Salem, New Jersey was arrested and is currently being held in Philadelphia as he awaits extradition back to New Jersey.
