MONROE, NJ -- The South Brunswick boys basketball team met Monroe for the fourth time this season, but couldn't pull off the upset, as Monroe won, 57-53, in the first round of the Central Jersey, Group 4 state tournament Monday night.

Devin Strickland scored 16 points and Christian Mangrum connected for 15 points for the Vikings (12-13), who led, 17-16, at halftime. Yathin Vemula handed out three assists to go with seven points for South Brunswick.

Joshua Daniels scored 21 points for Monroe (16-10), which went 3-1 against South Brunswick, as they split two Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division meetings and then defeated the Vikings in the GMC Tournament.
