SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ -- The South Brunswick boys basketball team advanced in the quarterfinal round of the Central Jersey, Group 4 state tournament with an 84-41 victory over Hightstown Thursday night.

South Brunswick (23-5), the fourth seed, will play top-seeded Middletown South on the road Saturday in the semifinals.

Senior swingman Justin Carbone scored 26 points for South Brunswick, which outscored Hightstown, 18-9, in the second quarter to open a 39-24 halftime lead. Then the Vikings busted it wide open with a 29-11 splurge in the third period.

Senior forward Devin Strickland scored 16 points and Ty Murchison added 11 points for the Vikings, who actually lost to Hightstown (21-7) in a regular-season game in December.
