MIDDLETOWN, NJ -- The fourth-seeded South Brunswick boys basketball team eliminated top-seeded Middletown South on the road Saturday with a 66-55 victory in the semifinal round of the Central Jersey, Group 4 tournament.
South Brunswick will play at third-seeded Marlboro Tuesday night for the sectional championship. Marlboro defeated New Brunswick, 77-72, in Saturday's other semifinal.
Senior forward Devin Strickland scored 20 points for the Vikings. Six of his points came in the fourth quarter, when South Brunswick (24-5) broke away from a 47-47 tie to finish the game with a 19-8 showing.
Andrew Tesser came off the bench and buried a 3-pointer to open the fourth quarter and give South Brunswick a 50-47 lead.
Justin Carbone finished with 14 points and Yathin Vemula connected for 13 for South Brunswick. Bobby Pirie finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds for Middletown South (26-3).
