EDISON, NJ — It took a little while for South Brunswick's no-huddle offense to get going Friday night, but once it did, there was no stopping the Vikings.
South Brunswick scored its first touchdown with 19 seconds left in the first quarter, then erupted for 21 second-quarter points on its way to a 42-0 victory over J.P. Stevens on the road.
Majid-Howard Baker scored three touchdowns for South Brunswick (2-0) in three different ways: on a run, a reception and a punt return.
With 19 seconds left in the first quarter, sophomore quarterback Vince Jairdullo faked a handoff on the option and kept the ball for a 1-yard TD run. Jai Patel kicked the first of his six extra points for a 7-0 lead.
South Brunswick got the ball back quickly after a J.P. Stevens three-and-out and a short punt that gave the Vikings possession on the Hawks' 31. On the third play after the punt, Majid Howard-Baker took a handoff off the right side, found room around end and scored on a 25-yard run with 11:09 left in the first half for a 14-0 lead.
A 15-yard TD pass from Jairdullo to Jared Lauri with 3:00 left in the half extended the lead to 21-0. With 57 seconds left in the second quarter, Howard-Baker unleashed a spectacular 85-yard punt return for a TD and a 28-0 lead.
Jairdullo and Howard-Baker combined on a 38-yard TD pass, and Justin Lawson ran 26-yards for a TD in the fourth quarter.
