HOWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ -- The South Brunswick girls track team finished first overall in the Central Jersey, Group 4 track and field meet at Howell High School last weekend. The team total of 102.42 points was well ahead of second-place Hillsborough's 62.28 team total.
Nikhila Obbinneni finished first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:03.02 and she was second in the 800-meter run with a 2:15.22. Jessica Rodgers of South Brunswick was first in the javelin with a throw of 121-07.
South Brunswick had first- and second-place finishes in two relay events. The Vikings won the 4x800 meter relay, with the foursome of Obbinneni, Chantel Osley, Cassandra Vega and Marisa Keiser clocking in at 9:26.60. The South Brunswick team of Joanna Taitt, Obbineni, Osley and Janai Orders ran the 4x400 relay in a second-place time of 4:00.01.
Osley of South Brunswick placed third in the 800-meter run (2:16.84) and fifth in the 1600-meter run (5:14.35). Elizabeth Matticoli was fourth in the javelin (112-01).
Rebecca Hartman of South Brunswick placed second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:17.78, and teammate Marisa Keiser was right behind her in third place at 11:24.77. Renee Nartley finished third in the triple jump at 35-09.25 and Orders was fourth (35-05.25). Sabrina Ray took the silver in the pole vault, where her jump of 11-00 was good for second place. Adwoa Ansong finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 37-01.50.
