Temple Emanu-El of West Essex will host the HaZamir International Jewish High School Choir. The concert will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. The choir will be conducted by Cantor Sharon Brown-Levy, subbing for Cantor Joel Caplan, and Cantor Leon Sher. Performing are two of HaZamir's 20 chapters: HaZamir North Jersey, which meets in West Orange, and HaZamir Bergen County, which meets in Teaneck.
HaZamir is a project of the Zamir Choral Foundation, Matthew Lazar, Founder and Director, and will include Temple Emanu-El’s Shir Libeinu and Shalom Singers choirs.
HaZamir International Jewish High School Choir provides hundreds of Jewish teens with the unique opportunity to sing sophisticated Jewish choral music, build community, develop leadership skills and connect to Jewish culture. Members come from across the United States and Israel. Individual chapters meet weekly to learn a common repertoire, and then gather for an annual Festival and Gala Concert at a major New York venue each spring. Past venues include Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, Manhattan's Central Synagogue, Temple Emanu-El and Rodeph Sholom Synagogue. Across our country, HaZamir has performed in California, London, Madrid and Israel, and at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. This year's Gala will be at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater on March 18.
The program is suitable for all ages; do not miss this unique concert opportunity. The concert is open to the public.
