On Saturday, April 14th, New Providence Girl Scout Troop 45878 held a Bake Sale at the Millburn PetSmart.  The event ran concurrently with the Summit, NJ based Home for Good Dog Rescue adoption event. Girl Scout Troop 45878 comprises of 19 girls, ranging from 9 to 10 years in age.  The majority of the girls participated in the event, either by baking and/or working the bake sale table. The bake sale was a community service project for the girls who are working for a merit badge.

Christine Weber, a mother of one of the scouts and a Home for Good volunteer, coordinated the girl’s efforts.  Christine serves as the troop’s GS cookie manager.  When asked about the bake sale, Christine replied "I thought that this was an incredible event.  I am very pleased that we raised over $500 for the HFG rescue."  Christine’s daughter Alyssa concurred, adding "I liked that I could be with the dogs.  I think it was the best idea ever."  Girls Scout Brooke Arnold stated “I thought that this was a fantastic experience.  I had a great time seeing all the dogs and all the people that donated.”

Along with fellow girl scouts Shrishtika Balamurugan and Abby Arts, the girls made up creative chants to get the attention of the PetSmart and neighboring Trader Joe’s shoppers so that they would buy the treats.  "It was so fun selling all the treats with my friends” remarked Shrishtika.  Home for Good holds dog adoption events monthly at the Millburn PetSmart.  The customers and employees at PetSmart and Trader Joe’s are always very supportive of our organization.

The bake sale was the “Icing on the Cake” for what turned out to be a great day the dog rescue as 13 dogs were adopted. It was a good day all around, the Girl Scouts did a fantastic job and the dogs that were adopted today found their “forever homes”.  The funds raised by the Girls Scouts will be used to help defray the medical costs of our rescue dogs. What an amazing group of girls.  We truly appreciate their support and partnership with Home For Good Dog Rescue.
