SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Police have arrested a man in connection with a carjacking in South Orange on Saturday, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and South Orange Police Chief James Chelel.
Police arrested 22-year-old Isaiah Green of Newark after police say he carjacked a 21-year-old woman in South Orange and forced her to drive towards Newark. Police said while in Newark, the victim spotted an Essex County sheriff's vehicle and was able to get the officer's attention by driving into his vehicle.
The suspect ran from the victim's car and the sheriff's officer pursued him through Vailsburg Park before losing sight of him. A subsequent investigation by the Essex Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force and the South Orange Police Department led to Green's arrest.
Green has been charged with robbery, carjacking and other offenses related to this incident. He was arrested in Newark within four hours of the original incident by detectives from the Homicide Task Force and South Orange. He has been remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility pending an appearance in the Central Judicial Processing Court. Bail has been set at $250,000.
Murray praised the detectives from the South Orange Police Department and the members of her office's Homicide Task Force for their quick work in apprehending this suspect. Murray also thanked the Essex County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in this investigation and praised the sheriff's officer who originally pursued Green after being alerted by the victim.
