SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Police are searching for the suspects in the assault on two male Seton Hall University students at the Grove Terrace apartment building Tuesday night.

Police said that one student was shot in the arm and another was beaten in the head with a gun at around 8:15 p.m. Both students were treated at UMDNJ and released, according to officials.

The South Orange Police Department detective bureau and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Scene Unit are conducting a joint investigation of the incident.

According to a news release from the SOPD Wednesday, the police began receiving 9-1-1 calls at 8:13 p.m. from people reporting they had heard gunshots. The victim who had been shot came into the police department a short time later. The apartment building, at 185 South Orange Ave., is less than a block from the SOPD headquarters.

Police said this is not a random act.
