When people ask, “What’s a Trustee?” – it’s complicated but also very simple to explain. On one hand, there are definitions of statutory responsibilities (taxation) and roles specified in our Village Charter (a policy making body that speaks via ordinance). But then there’s the very basic answer - - a Trustee is a public advocate, someone who listens to all sides of issues and then makes a decision that represents what he/she believes is in the best interest of the community.
Trustees need to be able to lead and inspire, but also be able to listen and learn – which is also what a successful campaign trail is all about.
Over the past several weeks, the South Orange 2013 team has been working hard to share our ideas and passions for this community but also listen to all of you. Since our announcement in mid-February, we’ve been knocking on doors, meeting with various stakeholders, sharing our ideas and why we’re running for this office and listening to your concerns and feedback on the direction of our town. We’ve also been in “recruitment mode” – highlighting all the various opportunities in our town for residents to be a part of various initiatives.
Today, we’re happy to announce a series of upcoming events being held throughout the village leading up to the election on Tuesday, May 14. We encourage you to attend, ask questions, and let’s have an open and honest discussion about all the issues that impact our community.
